Name: Nora Montgomery
Canon: American Horror Story
Original or Alternate Universe: OU
Canon Point: Post Series
Number: randomize me
Setting: Modern day Earth with an element of supernatural (primarily ghosts/ undead)
History:
Nora came from a prominent Philadelphia family, moving to LA in the early 1920s for her husband. Charles Montgomery built what will one day be known as the murder house for his wife. It was the top of the line, with Tiffany chandeliers and stained glass to match her eyes. Charles Montgomery began as a wealthy doctor, but soon spiraled down.
Nora would not put up with his drug habits increasingly putting them in debt. She fell quickly from her gaudy lifestyle, complaining of only two servants and needing to polish her own silver. When Charles' drug habit would not lessen, instead of treating more patients, Nora arranged for the doctor to perform abortions in their basement.
It was going well. Nora would calm the girl with drugs while her husband did what needed to be done. All until one of the girls told her boyfriend. The husband and wife were threatened until finally Nora received a call with a voice telling her "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". Nora discovered her baby, Thadeus, had been abducted. He was only found later cut in pieces.
Charles, being a surgeon himself and trying to prove himself, then began to work on the pieces of his dismembered child. Using the still beating heart of one of the girls, he created a monster. He tried to strive toward Nora's high standards, and when she saw what he had done, she did praise him. Grief struck, Nora had realized what they had done and shot him and then herself.
Nora has been stuck in the house since. We first see her in the series when Vivien Harmon is interested in selling the house. She knows each detail of the house intimately. She's been in the house all along, suffering for her child though.
She appeared to Tate as a child, being what looked like, the first person to show him kindness, to care for him. She's the first person we see that tells the ghosts to go away, and they do. There was a bond created, and Tate ends up trying to help her get a baby of her own.
When Chad and Patrick don't seem interested in getting a baby, he kills them. When Vivien and Ben move in, he rapes and impregnates Vivien with the plan that Nora would have her baby. And she does. Vivien is pregnant with twins. The first dies moments after it is born, and Charles, the doctor who delivered Viv's babies, hands her her baby.
But motherhood is not what it's cracked out to be. She has no maids and no patience for the baby's cries. She ends up giving the baby back to Vivien, though in her mind she certainly still has it. However the Harmons end up with their little family in the end.
Personality:
Nora is above all else demanding. She comes from the elite, used to wealth and money, and expects nothing but the best. However life doesn't seem to live up to these expectations, something that is common for her. With Charles' demise, she only seems to ridicule him more, and failure simply won't do. She tells this to Ben when he's half passed out on the floor.
She's priviledged though. Everything about her speaks of the era she was from and the money she had. She's refined. She makes sure that those less than her address her as Mrs. Montgomery. Mother had always said to not let the help address you by your first name. She's also quick to point out flaws. This all comes from the type of woman she is, a rich woman from the 1920s. Status is everything, and she will do anything to maintain that status, including manipulate people.
She didn't think anything of what Charles would think about the abortions. He was doctor and these girls were an untapped market. Sixty dollars was a lot then, and she had no problem giving them drugs and taking their money. She knows Charles wants to please her (even if his drug addiction gets in the way). She's hard to please though. In the end, she knew they needed to pay for their actions (so grief stricken to think of anything but death). She finally gave him the recognition she wanted, knowing it would bring him close enough for her to put the gun to his head.
Her wants drive her. She truly doesn't care what she does or what happens. It was only after her baby was killed that she realized what she had done, what it had meant. She wants a baby so bad, but doesn't realize how much work it is. She's always had servants, making one of them deal with her child. When she does finally have Vivien's stillborn, she indirectly admits that she may not be cut out to be a mother. Her own wasn't that good once she thought of it, a consequence of the wealth they had.
There is a gentleness to her though. It simply gets masked behind her elitism, the need to live the lifestyle she thinks she deserves. As a ghost, she's frequently not aware that she's dead. In appearance she doesn't look like she is, save for the bullet wound in the back of her head. She knows by the end that what she's done has come back to haunt her. She gets emotional when she does remember, and she acutely feels the loss of her baby.
Nora is motherly. She does admit that she doesn't have the patience and that her own mother wasn't a very good one, but she did take care of Tate. He was a little older when they first met then. A baby is far too needy, and while the ideal appeals to her so much from having lost her own baby, she does far better with Tate since he can walk and talk.
However their relationship does change once he dies. It started out as a mother/ son relationship, but Tate is very needy to the women in his life (save his mother). He'll go to any lengths for Nora. She only wants one thing, solely focused on having a baby.
Nora is still driven by her wants though. Instead of maintaining her elitism, her focus becomes on having a baby. She knows what Tate has done to Vivien, and when he comes to tell her that he can't do it, he can't take Violet's brother from her, she doesn't care. She'll make sure she'll have her baby.
Nora isn't all together there. Half of the time she's crazed on this one thing or grief stricken from losing Thadeus. Hayden is the one that has to remind her that she's died, how she died. She was far more dangerous in life than in death, though her own need drives Tate to kill and rape. Now she just exists, longing for the life she had.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Nora is a ghost which means she's incorporeal at times. She can choose when people see her. She can also move through objects. She was bound to the house since that's the place she died, but that stipulation is void on the ship. There is no way to truly banish a spirit save for telling them to leave, though that does not work permanently.
Inventory:
-The dress she was wearing
-Pill container
-Ornate rings, pearl necklace

Appearance: Nora is petite, blond woman. She dresses in 1920s era clothing, though her wealth is also shown in the fine clothes and jewelry she wears. In everything she is, she looks the part. She is portrayed by Lily Rabe.

Her hands shook as she tried to feel for a doornob. This was no ship like she had known. It sounded like those horrid radio programs. Hogs wollop, that's what she thought of it. Why was she here? It had been months since she came aboard, but this wasn't the house, and she could feel her fear rising, fear and confusion.
Her hand moved through the door, and she gasped. What was this strange place? She touched at the door to feel it. It opened a moment later. Whatever this place was, Nora needed out. She needed to find her baby and leave. Quickly she started toward the hall, calling for a baby.
But her baby was dead. That fear and confusion turned to straight sadness. She remembered the pieces of her dismembered child. There was little blood. Not like the abortions. Her eyes looked around the hall, wide and trying to find an answer for a question she can't even fathom.
This wasn't the house. Tears fall down her face, sobbing for all that has happened. She just wanted to go back to her house, her house with the oak and Tiffany fixtures. The house that had the stained glass that matched her blue eyes. Where was it, and where was she?
